Mary E. Gaines Cox Crawford

crawford2007-10-05-1191634557.jpg Mary Gaines was born on February 11, 1909, in Byrd, Texas, the daughter of J.G. "Gundy" Gaines and Sara Thompson Gaines. She married Robert Hillory Cox; he died at a young age. She then married John Crawford of Goldthwaite; he also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Crawford retired from the Childress Hospital in Goldthwaite after 25 years of service as Kitchen Manager. She was very active in her community, being voted "Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year" on May 18, 1989 and was also honored for "A Decade of Outstanding Volunteer Service" in Goldthwaite as well. She had lived in Brownwood for the last several years, moving here from Goldthwaite. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Goldthwaite.

Mrs. Crawford is survived by her daughters:
Bettie Martin Felton of Trickham,
Maxine Kellar of Brownwood,
and Ellen Dietz of Lovington, New Mexico;
her son, Francis Marion Cox of Roswell, New Mexico;
four sisters, Lillie Richmond of Blanket,
Opal Urie of Arlington,
Aileen Barkley of Lawrence,
Virginia and Sue Frix of Kerrville.

She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren 16 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. and Sara Gaines; her husbands, Robert Hillory Cox and John Crawford; two daughters, Betty Ruth Martin-Felton and Roberta Evelyn Cruthis; brothers, Jim Gaines and I.L. "Sam" Gaines, and two grandsons, Ricky and Nathan.

Funeral Services Saturday. October 6, 2007 , 2:00 PM -Heartland Funeral Home Chapel, Brownwood
