18th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT - As the November election nears, we're finding out where local candidates stand on the issues.

Republican Incumbent Congressman Aaron Schock is being challenged by Democratic challenger Steve Waterworth.

We asked both candidates if we need stricter gun control laws in the U.S. to prevent situations like that in Aurora, Colorado.

Steve Waterworth:
"It's like the genie is out of the bottle it's almost impossible to put gun control regulations back in that would be effective to stop some madman that wants to kill a lot of people with guns every place. And it's not a problem that can be solved with just a few laws, I think we need to look at some laws but I just don't think there's anything we can do to be effective."

Aaron Schock:
"If we have strict laws the only people that have guns are the criminals and that's not a good thing for any law abiding citizen so I actually do not think the solution is more gun laws. I think unfortunately those type of travesties happen whether it's been done with a gun in the case of Colorado or certainly the Beason family outside of Lincoln Illinois was beat to death by baseball bats and clubs. So I think that people who want to inflict harm on other human beings are going to do it with whatever weapon is available to them."
