No ID Required to Vote

AMARILLO -- Your registration card is all you'll need to vote in the November election.
The Voter ID law will not be in effect.
The Voter ID law was passed by Texas lawmakers last year but, was shot down by a three judge federal panel claiming the law illegally suppressed the voting rights of Latinos and African-Americans.
The law was pushed by a republican-led legislature that claims the ID law is needed to stop voter fraud.
However, Democrats and civil rights groups claim the republicans came up with a solution where there was no problem.
Research indicates in-person voter fraud is very rare, and certainly not big enough to sway a national election.
The studies show absentee and mail-in ballots are much more susceptible to fraud.
Potter county elections administrator Knoxie Mathes says all you need is your registration card to vote.
If you can't find it, then you'll need some other form of identification, like a driver's license.
Early voting for the November 6th election starts two weeks from today.
Because of the rising population in Potter county, they will have three more early polling places open during the early voting period.
