In three new commercials, McCaskill's campaign features three women who said they had been victims of sexual assault, all criticizing Akin's position.
"What matters to Missouri women is not what Todd Akin said about rape, it's that he believes rape survivors should not have have access to emergency contraception, whether they opt to take it or not," said Adrianne Marsh, McCaskill's campaign manager.
One of the spots features a woman named Diana who claims to be a pro-life Republican mother. She said because of her "personal beliefs," she declined to terminate her pregnancy, but said she also believes "no woman should be denied that choice."
The commercials began airing in a rotation statewide on Wednesday, the campaign said.
In response to the new commercials, Akin's campaign said they will continue their recent focus on highlighting McCaskill's family ties to companies that accepted nearly $40 million in government low-income housing contracts.
"She has up until now, successfully hidden from voters the fact that her 1 percent luxury lifestyle is funded by U.S. taxpayers," said Akin campaign adviser Rick Tyler. "We will not be distracted, nor should Missouri voters from the fact that McCaskill has been caught in a corrupt Washington-insider game that voter despise."
The issue was the the focus of Akin's latest campaign commercial, which is currently up with a minimal statewide buy.
