The Texas Education Agency has given the Abilene Independent School District an "unacceptable" rating for the past school year.
In a letter to parents and teachers, superintendent Dr. Heath Burns explains that the low rating is the result of a graduation rate of 74.1% of the district's Hispanic students, which is just under the 75% mark which would have resulted in an acceptable rating.
Dr. Burns says that while the rating is disappointing, the district has already made great strides to continuously improve the education of all students.
The district has scheduled a press conference for next Monday to discuss the ratings.
