As possible wintry weather comes toward the Big Country, local agencies that provide services to the senior poulation become particularly important.

Folks in snow-striken states like Minnesota know that all too well.

Tom Lynch is a volunteer with T.R.U.S.T. Meals on Wheels. He had seven people on his delivery route Friday

"It gives me the chance to give back a little bit," says Tom

And every weekday volunteers bring 100 meals to clients in south and southwest Minneapolis.

"It's not just delivering meals. You are checking to see how things are going with these people," says Tom. "Older home and so on so we'll check to make sure that the heat is staying on and they're comfortable and she said she was doing ok."

Authorities are urging everyone to check on their family members, friends, and neighbors.

"As we tend to hibernate with this cold weather we really hope folks would take care of each other by calling on a co-worker, on a family member or friend or whoever they are concerned about," says Inspector Matt Clark of the Minneapolis Police Department, 5th precinct.

In a brutal winter season Tom Lynch knows how important a welfare check can be. It's just a few minutes that go a very long way.

"It's very important to me, very important. He brings my food. He brings everything," says Olivia.
