Snow Adds Two to McMurry Women's Hoops Staff After Tuckness' Departure

By: Kyle Robarts - McMurry Sports Information
Updated: July 14, 2011
ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University head women's basketball coach Veronica announced the departure of assistant coach Jeff Tuckness Thursday, and she announced Amelia Snow and Jason Reeves to the War Hawks' staff.

Tuckness rejoined Matt Garnett as the assistant coach at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. Tuckness was hired at McMurry through Garnett's connection in the summer of 2010 to aide the women's basketball program as assistant coach. Tuckness was an assistant coach for the men's program at Biola University in Los Angeles when Garnett
was a player. Garnett took over at WBU last month after one year as McMurry's head men's basketball coach.

"Jeff's time at McMurry had a great impact with our team, the campus, and the recruiting community," said Veronica Snow of Tuckness. "His positive personality represented McMurry well and his player development skills allowed the players to learn and be excited about working to improve. We have only the best wishes for him at WBU."

Snow hired her daughter, Amelia to replace Tuckness as assistant coach and Reeves will join the staff as the team's strength and conditioning coach.

Amelia Snow graduated from Hardin University in Searcy, Ark. in 2010 with a degree in kinesiology, and she is pursuing a master's degree in coaching, sport, recreation, and fitness administration at Angelo State University.

While at Harding, she played volleyball for one season and served as a student assistant coach for the Bisons in her final three years with the school. Although her college career went with volleyball, she has stayed active in basketball after playing locally at Cooper High School.

Since 2009, Amelia Snow has served as the assistant camp director for McMurry's women's basketball camps, and in 2011 she aided Garnett as the assistant director for his "Elite Team Camp" hosted at McMurry.

In addition, she served as the club director and coach for the Abilene Lightning, a collection of local high school basketball talent, beginning in February of 2011. Last season, she served as McMurry's intern for the women's basketball team assisting with operations.

"Amelia will be an asset to our program and I am excited to have a person of her character, quality, and skills to work with and represent McMurry women's basketball," said Veronica Snow of her daughter and newest colleague. "As her mother I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with her."

Reeves will be working part time with the team, much like the War Hawks' track & field program where he serves as strength coach as well. Reeves, a certified personal trainer, will be responsible for designing the strength and conditioning programs for the team along with other duties.

"He will be an integral part of our development of the players throughout the year," said Veronica Snow of Reeves. "He has been the primary strength coach for our track athletes who have won national titles, so we're very fortunate to have him as a part of our program."

The McMurry women finished third in the American Southwest Conference West Division in 2010-11, and the team finished with a  16-10 record.
