Yale University researchers studied a medicare database of heart failure patients.
They found the number of adults hospitalized for heart failure went down 30 percent from 1998 to 2008.
That translated to significant savings in health care costs.
Hospitalization rates did not decline as much in African-American men, and varied by region.
Doctors say this needs to be addressed in future policy plans.
