"We've been collecting candy for about a month," explains Jane Hurley of First Christian Church.

It's that time of year again, where First Christian Church joins forces with First Central Presbyterian and St. Paul United Methodist in downtown Abilene.

"It started about 12 years ago," Hurley continues.

A tradition that brings parents and children out for a night of fun during the Halloween holiday.

"I was talking to a lady the other day who said she spent over $100 in candy," says Hurley.

She says members of the participating churches love to provide a fun and safe place for the children to come trick-or-treating.

"Our members wouldn't dare not let us do it again, because it's so much fun," Hurley continues.

The day will be full of activities for all ages.

Hurley says, "We provide hot dogs, lemonade, bouncy houses, and face painting."

Despite all the candy and fun activities, these churches want the community to look beyond the traditional holiday and know that they are there for them.

Hurley says, "It's not about Halloween, it's about serving the community of Abilene and building relationships with the families of Abilene."
