It's been almost nine months since wildfires ripped through an area just north of Colorado City, burning more than 20,000 acres.

The city manager estimates the total loss at roughly $1 million, but for many residents, the sentimental loss is what hits hardest.

Artifacts from World War II Janie Vann's father left behind were completely torched, and a fireplace from a home on her property that stood for more than seven decades is all that remains.

"You know, that's just small little things," Vann says. "I'm one of the fortunate ones that do have a house. And all that stuff can be replaced."

Vann says the rebuilding process is tough, but this incident put everything into perspective for her and her family.
