Tuesday Evening Update:
Emmett Miller, husband of Pat Miller, posted the following message on his Facebook page Tuesday evening:

Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts on her behalf. God works in ways unknown to us. We have a long and slow path ahead. Slight improvement each day. Taking hour by hour. Keep praying for her.

Hendrick Medical Center had Miller listed in fair condition Tuesday afternoon.

Original Story:
It's not something that the people at Hendrick Hospice Care see all the time: on Saturday, Pat Miller, a woman injured in the ACU bus crash earlier this month, woke up from a coma after being transferred to hospice care.

"We have had cases in the last 29 years where patients do get better, and they don't need our services," said Karen Tucek, director of Hendrick Hospice Care. Tucek works with patients who have been referred to hospice care by a doctor.

"I believe in miracles, and they do happen. It's just a blessing to be a part of them," Tucek said.

Miller was being treated at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, before she was transferred back to Abilene to get treatment from Hendrick Hospice Care.

"It's great to be a part of this. It's great to work with patients and families everyday," Tucek said.

According to ACU's paper, The Optimist, Miller woke from her coma Saturday night and started to ask about people. Just days ago, Miller's family was told by doctors that she had no brain activity.

"This is not typical that this would happen," Tucek said.

Karen says they are there to help the families during a hard time in their lives, and hearing a story like Miller's warms the heart.

"It's good for the soul, it's good for us. It's good for the families and our community," Tucek said.
