Cold afternoons and freezing nights can mean all kinds of trouble for your home, but is it too late to prepare your pipes and fireplaces for the new year? Finance expert Rhonda Young provides us with some easy steps to safe guarding your home against the Winter woes.

"We do need to think about what would happen to our home if the temperatures dropped really low. It happens every year," says Rhonda Young, from Stovall Realtors.

Freezing pipes, and even house fires are common problems during the Winter months and can easily be avoided with just a few simple tips:
  •     Disconnect garden hoses.
  •     Drip faucets to prevent them from freezing.
  •     Leave the heater on, but turn off smaller space heaters.

"It can save you thousands and thousands of dollars worth of damage," says Young.

And while these changes might cost you a little more on your utility bill each month, a busted pipe or house fire could be devastating for your home.
