Fire Claims Property on West Lake Road

By: Cody McDonell
Updated: January 3, 2012
Some property was damaged during a grass fire in far north Abilene this afternoon.

Crews responded to the fire call just after 1:00 p.m. off West Lake Road inside Jones County.

Although crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading too far, a small travel-trailer and some deer blinds couldn't escape its reach, and were destroyed.

The owner of the property says workers were spray-painting a fence when they noticed the fire.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but workers say they were not using any kind of cutting torch or welder when the fire started.
