Testimony is underway this morning in the trial of a man facing felony charges of assaulting police officers.

Prosecutors allege that Larry Dale Smith tried to stab two officers and tried to pull a handgun to avoid being captured.

It happened one year ago this week on Russell Avenue in central Abilene. Smith is charged with aggravated assault on police officers.

The arresting officers used a police dog and a Taser to get control of smith during the arrest. The attorneys selected a jury on Tuesday to hear the evidence in the case.
