Updated: January 19, 2012
The Hermleigh ISD board of trustees approved a contract with Carter Construction Wednesday night to build a pair of tennis courts on campus.

The two courts will be constructed northeast of the softball field that is currently under construction. All the sports facilities -- football stadium, baseball and softball fields and tennis courts -- will be located within the same complex. The cost for the courts is $179,000.

During the construction report, the board was told that both the softball and baseball fields are on schedule to be completed by March 1. Superintendent Gary Rotan said lights are in place and turf is expected to be installed next week.

No one spoke during the public hearing on the Academic Excellence Indicator System performance report.

Last year, Hermleigh was deemed academically unacceptable and the district is submitting monthly progress reports to the Texas Education Agency.

During the enrollment report, trustees learned that the district has four more students than last year. Currently, the district is enrollment is 233 students.

Outstanding elementary and secondary students for the third six weeks were recognized by trustees. The top elementary student is Connie Hermosillo and the outstanding secondary student is Johan Ferris.
