Local Activist Denied New Trial

By: Victor Sotelo
Updated: January 27, 2012
A local activist was back in court today asking for a new trial.

Michael Mellen was recently found guilty of illegal dumping and was sentenced to two years probation.

Mellen was charged after Abilene's Environmental Enforcement Officer contacted him about trash in his alley.

The officer said in court last year that Mellen was defiant and had no choice but to refer the case to the district attorney's office.

A judge denied his request for a new trial.
