A New Jersey teen battling Leukemia was hoping to make a dream come true by taking country music star Taylor Swift as his date to his June prom.

Unfortunately, the pop singer won't be able to make it, so she's invited him to be her date to the Academy of Country Music awards show instead.

It all started when Kevin McGuire, a senior at Sterling High School in Somerdale, New Jersey, asked the mega superstar through his Facebook campaign to his prom on June 1, which happens to be the same day as his birthday.

Tens of thousands of people have subscribed to his page offering support.

His sister, Victoria, who set up the page, hoped that Swift would see it and accept the invitation.

Swift did see it.

The music star, in response to Mcguire, took to her Facebook fan page on Friday and wrote "Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom. But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up.. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor."

"I wasn't expecting this at all," Kevin said. "It's ten times better than the prom. She's just a great, positive role model for today's society. You see all these other celebrities on the news about being in jail and drugs and that kinda stuff but Taylor is such a great girl."

The 18-year-old was first diagnosed with Leukemia at 13 and believed he beat the disease two years ago.

He recently learned the cancer has returned.

He is being treated at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia.

The 47th Academy of Country Music Awards air Sunday, April 1.
