HSU Students Spend Spring Break Helping Wildfire-Ravaged Region

Just a few hours away from the Key City, over a thousand people lost everything in last September's Bastrop wildfires.
HSU student Taylor Horn says, "I talked to this one 16-year-old and he told me him and his family no longer had a home and they were living somewhere else."
Taylor Horn went to Bastrop just a month after the fires.
Horn says, "I just think it's really exciting to get to go back and help those people rebuild their lives."
Near freezing temperatures and constant drizzle didn't dampen the group's spirits. Around 20 HSU students from the Baptist Student Ministries left today on a five-day trip.. They'll assist in everything from structural rebuilding to working in the wildfire distribution center.
"Familes who have lost homes can come, pick up food, clothing, that kind of thing," says Hunt.
Trudy Lonigro is another student choosing outreach
"That's what I'm here for. That's why I'm on earth is to help others that need it," says Lonigro.
Something the BSM director wants them to take with them long after they've left Hardin Simmons.
Hunt says, "That they will see these kinds of opportunities as they arise and go out and do those things still. That it won't just be something they do while they're at college."
