An Abilene man is behind bars after he allegedly fired shots at a family's home on South 7th Street Sunday night. Police arrested Tommy McCutchen Friday and charged him with felony deadly conduct.

"Sounded like metal banging on metal. I thought it was the dogs, because they were outside at the time," said Raul Carreon, who lives in the home.

When Carreon realized what he was hearing, he immediately went to check on his kids. Four children were inside when the shots were fired.

"Vincent and Christian were sitting right here on the couch. Fortunately, they were sitting right here playing the game, because Vincent about ten minutes prior to that had been standing right in front of the TV where one of the bullets had actually hit," he said.

Carreon got the children out of the room and called police.

"Grabbed the kids, told them to get down on the ground. We crawled through the hallway," he recalled.

Police interviewed people in the area and arrested Carreon's neighbor, Tommy McCutchen, Friday. He's charged with felony deadly conduct.

It's been five days since the shooting, but the bullet holes in the walls serve as reminders of what could have happened that night.

"Realistically, my son always plays video games right here and he has a bad habit of standing right in front of the TV. I mean, if it could have been just a different scenario, he could have easily been hit. And at his height would have probably been fatal," Carreon said.

Police took a gun from a home near where the shooting happened as evidence. More charges could be filed.

McCutchen was still listed in the Taylor County Jail Friday night.
