A motorcyclist involved in a major accident Saturday night remains in critical condition this morning.

Witnesses tell Abilene police 41-year-old Tony Scott Whit of Clyde was trying to pass a slower vehicle on Loop 322 Saturday night at 7:42 when the front wheel of his motorcycle began to shake, causing him to lose control and leave the roadway.

Police believe an equipment malfunction is to blame for the accident.

Whit was transported to Hendrick Medical Center with head injuries after being thrown from his motorcycle.

He was not wearing a helmet.
