Updated: April 14, 2012
The Abilene State park held its first Celtic heritage in Texas Day.

That's in celebration of National Tartan day- which celebrates Scottish heritage in America.

"Abilene is kind of on the edge of the frontier and so many of the Scots-Irish were the kind of the vanguard  of the frontier movement  all the way back to the fur traders, Lois and Clark expedition," said Abilene State Park superintendent Rick Thompson.

Park staff organized the event not only to celebrate Scottish influence in Abilene, but to promote visitors to the park.

They plan on continuing the tradition and even adding on other ethnicity's including Hispanic and German influences in future events.
