9-year-old Katelynn Arnold was found Thursday hanging from a rope that was wrapped around a tree in her Ragland, Alabama yard.
"It's intentional. It's definitely an intentional, I don't want to call it an accident. It was an intentional situation," said St. Clair County Sheriff Terry Surles.
Katelynn and her half brother lived at the home with foster parents.
Katelynn's foster mom discovered her hanging from the tree.
She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Katelynn was a 3rd grader at Ragland Elementary School.
Administrators have brought in ministers and grief counselors to help them cope with her death.
