Some Brownwood parents are concerned that a pellet gun made it's way into a local school.

On Friday an 11 year-old student was sent home because of misconduct.

That's when school staff were told he had brought a pellet gun to school.

It took the staff hours to locate the backpack in one of the lockers- which is why administrators say no one was notified until after school.

Administrators at the Brownwood Intermediate School say they called the police about the incident once the pellet gun was located.

"I'd like to be notified if my own three children's safety is in jeopardy  and we did not feel that was the case for one the student had already left the campus," said Charles Chesser, the school's principal. "If the backpack was still here we knew that we were looking for it if it was either in a locked locker or it was in a teacher's possession.

Parents however, are still concerned about the fact that they weren't notified about the incident by school administration.

"Not only are these kids at a young age, they shouldn't be you know bringing stuff into the school like that," said Cecilia Cardoza, whose 11 year old daughter attends the school,  "I had no clue about it until  we heard it on the news and its just crazy that they don't let you know as soon as it happens."

The gun is missing a piece and cannot be fired.

Brownwood police say they have sent that case over to the juvenile probation committee who will decide whether or not the boy will face any charges.

For now, school officials say the boy will not be returning to the school to complete the school year.
