Buffalo Gap Villiage Appreciation Day More to Air Force Veteran

"We just like to show our appreciation to the people who are out there sacrificing in ways that we can't," said Kimberly Burns, guest services coordinator at Buffalo Gap Village.

It's a simple way to say thank you. And the military appreciation day at the Buffalo Gap Village does just that.

"All active military are free all the time, but on our military appreciation weekend we let all the families in, veterans, all that kind of stuff," she said.

It's to thank veterans like Kevin Haveman, who has been out of the air force for a year and a half. He brought his family today to show them the history of his new state.

"I'm originally from Michigan so i don't know that much about Texas. And they're from Michigan too and they don't know much about Texas," said Haveman. "So it's just kind of to show them a little bit about Texas, their new home."

But Haveman said the best part about being out with his family on military appreciation day was getting to spend time getting to know Texas with his two year old daughter, Kenedie.

"It's fun, i mean, you get to introduce her to some stuff and show her a little bit about Texas that she doesn't really understand, but she can pick up a little bit," said Haveman.

And the former airman said that it's always nice to know that military communities like Abilene show thanks for those serving their country.

"It means a lot as a veteran to have companies and places show that they appreciate the time and the effort that we put in," Haveman said.

Military Appreciation Day is the third Sunday of every month.
