It's a sad Friday for some people in Tye.

Today is the last day of classes for Tye Elementary School, which has been there since 1895. The students will be moved to Merkel next year as part of the school consolidation.

Community leaders have scheduled several events to commemorate the history of the school tomorrow.

The event will start with a parade on Morgan Street in front of the campus beginning at 10:00.

Registration for the afternoon events is scheduled at 11, and include a car show, music and other events to celebrate the history of the community.

Former teachers and principals will be honored at 3:00 Saturday afternoon.

There will also be some items for sale to help raise money for a new historical marker at the campus.
