A truck driver is recovering this morning after his vehicle was struck by a train this morning in east Abilene.

Abilene police say a semi-trailer had come dislodged from 37-year-old Joel Newberry's truck at the railroad crossing on T & P Lane around 5:20 a.m. As Newberry was attempting to re-connect the trailer, a Union Pacific Railroad train struck the truck with Newberry still inside. Police say the train was traveling about 30 miles per hour, and pushed the truck about 35 yards down the tracks. Newberry was able to walk back to the crossing to meet with emergency personnel, and was taken by ambulance to Hendrick Medical Center.

The Abilene Fire Department says about 100-200 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled from the truck's fuel tanks.
