Students from all over the world were in the Big Country Saturday for a unique type of competition.

An international collegiate rocket launch competition was held in Burkett, just south of Cross Plains, all day Saturday.

The competition brought students from nearly two dozen universities and over seven countries.

The purpose of the event is to get engineering students interested in rocketry through building and getting the hands on experience.

In addition to giving students a real life application of engineering, the rockets they built also used the same fuel that the space shuttle uses during its launches.
