Bank officials in Abilene say they get customers on a daily basis who say they're credit card was used without their permission.

All it takes is a simple swipe or click.

About one in 10 people in the u-s are victims of credit car fraud.

That's when someone takes down your credit card information to purchase items on your tab.

Now most people are aware that it can happen online- but it can also happen right under your nose- at the store or even a restaurant.

"Now they tell you always follow your card at the restaurant or whatever back to where its being processed," said Gary Galbraith, president of the American State Bank Abilene Region,

"That's very very hard to do in many instances and a lot of people don't do that, but they just need to be careful of what they do with their cards and where they put their cards."

However not all is lost if this happens.

Bank experts say you can get your money back, but you only have a limited time claim it

"One thing people don't realize is that they only have sixty days to study that and respond and file a  dispute and if its sixty one days their out of luck," said Galbraith.

Here are a few other tips they recommend for credit card users

They say its especially important to constantly check your bank statements

Keep close watch of your card

Only hand it to people you trust

Record the phone numbers listed on the back of your card

And the most important- don't wait to report credit card fraud- you have a limited time.

Credit card experts also recommend using only credit cards instead of debit cards when purchasing items online.

They say online credit card theft is the most common and credit card companies are faster at paying consumers back.
