Last night at about 9:00, Officer Mark Thomas was dispatched to a shoplifter call at a business in the 4300 block of Southwest Drive. APD Dispatch was notified by a loss prevention employee that a shoplifter was caught stealing merchandise. Officer Thomas' investigation revealed that a female suspect had been observed by loss prevention selecting items and placing them in a shopping basket. The employee further observed the suspect pay for only a few items at an interior checkout counter. The suspect was then detained by loss prevention after leaving the store without paying for the remainder of items selected. Approximately $405 in stolen merchandise was recovered. A records check revealed the suspect had three outstanding municipal warrants. The suspect was arrested for theft and the warrants.

Last night at about 10:00, Officer Jim Ward contacted a reckless motorist in the 1100 block of North Mockingbird Lane after observing the driver of the vehicle rapidly back-out into oncoming traffic. Officer Ward contacted the male driver of the vehicle and during his investigation he smelled the odor of alcohol coming from him and noticed he was showing signs of intoxication. The driver was given field sobriety tests which he failed. He was arrested and taken to jail where he provided breath samples. Breath samples taken revealed the driver's BAC to be 0.166 and 0.163. The driver was charged with an enhanced felony charge of driving while intoxicated based on previous driving/boating while intoxicated convictions.

Just after 11:00 last night, Officer Joshua Davis was dispatched to a criminal mischief call in the 1700 block of Briarwood Street. APD Dispatch was notified by a victim that one of his tires on his vehicle was cut. Officer Davis' investigation revealed that a tire valued at approximately $280 was damaged during this incident. The victim suspects a known subject as the culprit. The investigation into this crime continues.
