The Snyder City Council unanimously voted to annex more than five acres of land into the city limits, where a new Walmart Supercenter could be built.

The land is located on the east side of the intersection of South College Avenue and Houston Parkway, across from the Cogdell Family Clinic.

This was only a first reading of the ordinance, and there will be public hearings before it is finalized.

According to Snyder Daily News, the public hearings have been scheduled for July 23 and July 30, with a final vote scheduled for August 6 council meeting.

City Manager Merle Taylor says negotiations are still ongoing with Walmart officials.
