2 Get Sentence for Conspiring to Rob Grocery Store

Updated: July 12, 2012
A plan to rob a north Abilene grocery store landed two men in court Thursday.

Roy (left) and Joseph Gardner planned on robbing the Lawrence Brothers on Ambler and Pine Street in December of 2011 with a store employee.

The duo reportedly planned to rob the store near closing time with Joseph Gardner dressed as a woman so no one would recognize him, and Roy Gardner as the getaway driver.

Huey Jackson, the store employee, told them where the cameras were and how many employees were in the store.

Although they never actually robbed the store, they were pulled over by police who found out about the planned robbery and were watching the store.

The Gardners got three years probation for their part in the plan, and they may testify in the trial of the store employee who helped.
