AFD Submits Proposal for New Bunker Gear

By: Katie Thompson
Updated: July 24, 2012
The Abilene Fire Department wants to replace several sets of outdated bunker gear for its firefighters.

The proposal for the purchase of 40 sets of new gear is up for approval at Thursday's city council meeting.

Each set of the new gear from a company called Firedex costs about $1,800.

Fire officials say it's necessary to replace the safety gear after about five years of hard use, and if the proposal is approved, they will be getting the highest quality gear for the lowest price.
