Sweetwater Police Chief, Brian Frieda, says the preliminary autopsy results indicate the body found along I-20 last Thursday is that of an adult male.

There is no identification as to age or cause of death, so the body has been sent to a forensics expert at the University of North Texas for further study through DNA databases.

The chief doesn't expect to hear back from them for at least a week.

Update

Sweetwater Police Chief, Brian Frieda, stated that around 11 a.m., highway cleanup workers found a dead body in the median of I-20 at mile marker 242 in Sweetwater.

The workers notified TxDOT, who called Sweetwater Police who contacted the Texas Rangers to help with the investigation.

The body is decomposed to the state where gender, age, race, and cause of death cannot be determined.

The body is being sent to Lubbock for an autopsy, but it could be early next week before identification can be made.

Police are investigating this death as suspicious, since the body was found along the interstate.
