SPCA Air Conditioner Crashes in Surgery, Urgent Need of Donations

The air conditioner crashed during surgeries late Wednesday afternoon. Help is needed urgently to pay for a unit.
The expected cost will be around $3,000 since the unit is both heating and cooling.
The SPCA is running low on funding after a very costly summer. There have been several large abuse cases that have brought in nearly 30 horses. Although nearly all of these animals have been adopted, the feed and medical bills totaling over $4,000 are still being paid.
Also, the number
of animals going to the Abilene Animal Shelter and Rescue the Animals, SPCA are
up over 50 percent this summer over last year.
This has forced the SPCA to spend more on advertising, medical, and animal care in an effort to save as many of these animals as possible.
Rescue the Animals, SPCA inventory is running in excess of 150 dogs and cats. Many days our inventory is even higher than that of the City's Animal Shelter.
"With the slow economy, unexpected expenses like these are much more difficult to cover," said Paul Washburn, President of Rescue the Animals, SPCA. "An air conditioner is something we just can't wait to replace. It has to be done quickly. When horses arrive, they have to be fed right now. Sometimes the donations do not come in that rapidly."
