A Brownwood man was arrested overnight after his vehicle crashed into a small apartment complex in the 1700 block of 3rd Street.

According to Brown County jail records and Brownwood Police reports, 24-year-old Alan Leroy Everett was arrested for DWI and failure to stop and render aid after the Chevy Impala he was driving crashed through a utility pole and into the apartment.

According to apartment manager Jay McBride, the vehicle was traveling southeast on 3rd Street when it ran off the road, causing the damage. Bricks were visible throughout the interior of the apartment and some were lodged into the interior wall from the impact.

Although the utility pole was replaced overnight, it was sheared off after the accident.

The car itself was almost completely inside the apartment.

The suspect fled the scene after the crash leaving a teenage passenger inside the vehicle. Police later located Everett at his residence where he was arrested. The passenger of the vehicle was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

McBride said that fortunately the apartment was between tenants, so no one was living in it at the time of the crash. The crash occurred around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday.
