Yorvit Torrealba Placed on Release Waivers

Boston, MA-The Texas Rangers today announced that catcher Yorvit Torrealba has been placed on waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.
 
Torrealba was designated for assignment on July 31 when the Rangers acquired catcher Geovany Soto from the Chicago Cubs. If Torrealba is not claimed, he will become a free agent at 12 noon CT on Friday.
 
Torrealba batted .236 with 3 homers and 12 RBI in 45 games for Texas in 2012, his second year with the club.
 
The Rangers major league roster remains at 40 players.
