LULAC Hosts 20th Annual Back to School Rally

By: Kristin Anderson
Updated: August 11, 2012
Kids and parents were gearing up with free school supplies Saturday afternoon.

The League of United Latin American Citizens held it's 20th annual back to school rally, holding a raffel for free school supplies for low-income families, which included brand new bikes. There were also guest speakers talking to kids about how important it is for them to stay in school and work hard. And after 20 years, LULAC says this is a good way to encourage kids before the school year.

"We want to encourage them and let them know that these people that received scholarship actually applied themselves to getting an education and they worked hard so therefore we were able to give them a scholarship to continue their education. And we want kids to see that and hopefully they'll do the same," said LULAC president, Jack Guzman.
