'Nelson Splash' Incurring Complaints After Only Second Week

Updated: August 13, 2012
The Nelson Splash Pad in Abilene has been open for just two weeks now and already there are some complaints.

Visitors to the park have been complaining about water fountains not working for up to twenty minutes at a time.

"I think it might be the low water pressure or the filters might not be working right," surmises Malcolm Christensen, a parent who came to visit the park. "But every now and then, the water will cut off for about 10 to 20 minutes, then it'll run for about thirty minutes. Could be multiple things, you know what I mean?"

Officials claim the system is programmed to shut down when it's time to clean the water and adjust chemical levels, but that typically should only take a few minutes.

City officials say they're still learning the best ways to effectively run the system, and are meeting with the makers of the splash park this week to make adjustments.
