Updated: August 16, 2012
FRISCO, Texas - Southland Conference Commissioner Tom Burnett issued the following statement regarding the league's ongoing membership process:

"The Southland Conference Board of Directors met by teleconference call Thursday afternoon to discuss the league's ongoing membership process. The Board continues to review the possibilities for new membership, and is maintaining its dialogue with the institutional leadership of the University of New Orleans, Abilene Christian University and the University of the Incarnate Word."

Burnett told Bigcountryhomepage.com Sports the conference is planning to make a decision on the membership of the 3 schools by the end of the month when he and other Southland Conference officials visited the ACU campus.

Burnett said, "For us, its a matter of weeks we believe. We're thinking, what does our conference look like in 2012-2013  academic year. In order to do that, we need to make decisions fairly quickly."
