Abilene Ruff Riders Re-Name Team Abilene Bombers

By: BCH Sports
Updated: August 17, 2012
The Ruff Riders are the Ruff Riders no more. The ownership group of the Abilene Team announced  today that the new name for our indoor football team is now, the Abilene Bombers. The team decided to make the change earlier this year and held a contest to come up with the new name.

The new colors will be shock wave green, navy and white and the Mascot will be a bee appropriately name "B1"! The name's connection to Dyess Air Force base was the connection to the community they were looking for.

"Part of this re-branding contest was, we wanted something that Abilene can call their own. And with the Dyess Air Force Base and things like that, we figured that would be a great way to relate this to the community of Abilene." Joe Brannen

"Especially in this time, you know, where we are still busy overseas, and its just appreciation and honoring them in a way, and the community supports them and always has, so it's honoring the community as well." Says New General Manager Danny Kittley.

In addition to the new nickname, the bombers signed head coach Joe Brannen to a new 2-year contract to coach the team through the 2014 season.

The winner of the Re-naming Contest is Buddy Miller. He will receive four VIP Season Tickets for the 1213 season.
