The Hawley Bearcats continue to get ready for the upcoming 2012 season.

Head coach Brad Schoonmaker's team is in District 4-2A Division 2 this year. That district is also the home of 2011 state finalist Cisco, Colorado City and Hamilton.

The Bearcats were 7-3 last year and just missed the playoffs. The 15 returning lettermen remember the heart-ache and plan on avoiding it this year.

Mike Prather said, "We really got a fire lit under our stomach and we really wanted to get out here and make a statement. And come back stronger than we were before."

Chris Castillo added, "Well, we're just looking to come back and a have another shot, and maybe go to playoffs this year. I think we can do it with the team we have this year. We have a lot of good juniors and seniors this year, we've got good team chemistry. I think we'll be able to do it this year."

Houston Schoon maker will be a key player in 2012 in all 3 phases of the game, according to his dad and head coach, Brad. Keegan Fernandez rushed for 8 touchdowns and had 2 picks last year, and Clancy Manuel is back to lead the defense.
