Upon entry into the residence, the fire crew observed heavy smoke conditions and an activated sprinkler head.
The crew immediately pulled a CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) attack line and started to attack the fire.
The fire was contained and extinguished very quickly.
Other arriving crews were assigned to search connecting and downstairs apartments for occupants.
The apartment received heavy smoke and water damage, from the sprinkler head, and minor fire damage. The first and second floor apartments did receive some water damage but maintenance personnel were on scene quickly to clean it up.
All of the affected occupants are being relocated until clean up is complete.
The cause of the fire was determined to be combustible materials too close to a stove that was in use, which caught on fire.
Damage is expected to be around $10,000.
In all, three Engines, one Ladder, one Battalion Chief, one Fire Investigator, one Field Resource Medic along with Metro Care, AEP and a Building Inspector responded to the scene.
