Chris Eugene Durham, 41, pled guilty on Wednesday to Tampering With Evidence and Theft of More Than $20,000 but Less Than $100,000, both third degree felonies.

Durham was sentenced to 25 years, pursuant to a plea agreement.

Durham was arrested in Eastland County on May 10 by State Troopers from the Department of Public Services.

Durham flagged down a trooper from Palo Pinto County for assistance on the side of I-20.  EMS arrived on scene to aid the passenger in Durham's vehicle, but found no medical emergency, however, responders did locate numerous small bags of methamphetamine.

During the search, Durham was able to get his handcuffs around from his back, dove in the passenger door of the patrol vehicle, climbed to the driver's seat and locked the doors.  Law enforcement was able to shoot out the tires as Durham fled.

Durham drove a mile before wrecking the vehicle and being restrained and cuffed.  During the flight Durham swallowed the contents of several other baggies of methamphetamine.

The charges typically carry a punishment maximum of 10 years, but both were enhanced to higher ranges based on Durham's criminal history which included previous felony convictions for auto theft, robbery, cocaine possession, and bank robbery.
