ACU was the first to strike with a short touchdown run by Charcandrick West in the first quarter. That gave the Wildcats an early 7-0 lead, but the Texans would answer right back.
A touchdown pass from Aaron Doyle to Vaughn Davis would ignite a push to give Tarleton State a 20-10 lead at halftime.
Then the Wildcats would come right back.Taylor Gabriel would make a diving grab in the endzone off a Mitchell Gale pass to give ACU the lead at 23-10.
ACU would tack on to that lead with another grab by Gabriel, and some nifty footwork to get into the endzone. At that point ACU would lead 34-23.
The Texans wouldn't just go away in this one. A quarterback sneek by Doyle cut the ACU lead to 34-29, and made it a three-point game after a two point conversion.
The Wildcats would hold on though after grabbing the on-side kick to lock up the 34-31 victory in the Lone Star Football Festival.
