September Sales Tax Numbers Released, Brownwood to End Fiscal Year on Good Note

Brownwood sales tax numbers were up September with a 6.89 percent increase over last month.

Brownwood is still up 5.44 percent year-to-date according to the Comptroller's office. 

The City of Brownwood also wraps up their fiscal year with these numbers (October 1 - September 30) with a positive outlook according to Brownwood Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Emily Crawford.

"Year-end, our sales tax was 4.60 percent greater than sales tax received last fiscal year," Crawford said. "We are on a pretty good trend for the City of Brownwood for sales tax, and we are certainly optimistic that that trend will continue."

The City of Early showed an increase in September of 5.21 percent from the previous month and is still slightly up year-to-date by 0.96 percent in sales tax allocations.

Blanket and Bangs each showed a sales tax decline in September.

Statewide, Combs will send September local sales tax allocations totaling $559.2 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts. September sales tax allocations are up 15.5 percent compared to September 2011.

"The strong business and consumer spending trend boosted the monthly sales tax revenue, as did money remitted at the close of the state's tax amnesty which ended in August," Combs said. "The state's sales tax revenue for fiscal 2012 was $24.1 billion, about 12.6 percent higher than the previous fiscal year. Collections from business sectors such as the oil and natural gas industry and consumer sectors including retail trade increased sales tax revenue for the fiscal year."

September sales tax allocations represent monthly sales made in July.
