Community Programs to Present for United Way Funding

By: Press Release
Updated: September 20, 2012
Community investment review teams will hear presentations about 26 community programs as part of United Way of Abilene's investment process.

Presentations will begin September 20th at 9:00 a.m. at the Abilene Civic Center on the 2nd floor.

Non-profit agencies submitted funding applications about their programs in July.

Volunteers have reviewed the applications, and will now hear presentations from agencies prior to making final investment decisions.

Decisions will be submitted to the United Way of Abilene Board of Directors for approval in December.

Last year volunteers directed more than $1.1 million into programs serving West Central Texans.

The community investment process ensures donors that investments are used for efficient and accountable programs in the 19 counties that United Way of Abilene serves.

"Program presentations are an integral part of the community investment process," said Dixie Bassett, United Way of Abilene President & CEO. "Volunteers direct dollars to programs that are making an impact on the lives of children and families in West Central Texas."

Considerable attention will be given to the role of United Way funding in addressing the needs of children to be successful in school, families to be self-sufficient, and citizens to have basic needs met.
