The Abilene High Eagles and the Cooper Cougars are getting ready to face off on Friday night in the Crosstown Showdown.

The Eagles enter the game ranked 9th in the state by Harris with an unbeaten record. The Cougars are unranked with a 2 and 1 record in district play.

Rivalry games generally bring out the best in the athletes and the coaches, and both teams are expecting that to happen again this year.

It's a great environment and the coaches like these games, almost as much as the fans.

Cooper head coach Todd Moebes said, "It's fun. That's why you get into the profession.  This is championship caliber type of game because of the atmosphere and how many people are going to be there and involved and how important it is. It's why you coach. These games that we have an opportunity to play in are very special, and you look forward to it."

Abilene High head coach Steve Warren added, "Yeah, it's different. The thing that I notice more than anything is in the community. We've got a great fan base in Abilene, Texas. We've got great high school football fans that support both teams, but this week they don't. They draw a line in the sand, and you are on 1 side or the other. It's unlike any other community I've seen, as far as that goes."

The 52nd Crosstown Showdown is coming at you Friday night. It's a little earlier in the year than normal, but this is still important for the district standings. They play at 7:30.
