Abilene Bombers Continue To Add To 2013 Roster

By: Abilene Bombers Press Release
Updated: October 25, 2012
The Abilene Bombers are pleased to announce the signing of Defensive Back Jeff Hodges,  Defensive Linemen Jairius Jarvis and Tight End LaRoi Johnson to contracts for the 2013 season.

Defensive Back Jeff Hodges is an indoor football veteran that has spent time in San Angelo with the Stampede Express and last year played in Corpus Chrisiti.  "Jeff is a guy that will bring some more experience to our defensive backfield.  He is a guy that gives all he has on every play whether it be defense or special teams.  With his skill set and leadership I look for him to make an impact immediately," said Coach Brannen.   When asked about his expectations for the season Hodges had this to say. "My overall expectation for the season is to compete for a championship.  If we are not striving for our best then we are wasting our time as players and the time of the great fans of Abilene.  I intend to waste no time!"

Jairius Jarvis comes to the Abilene Bombers after playing last season with the Milwaukee Mustangs of the Arena Football League (AFL).   Jairius was an All-American at Missouri Southern State  and brings a wealth of talent to the 2013 roster.   "J.J. is a guy that can get after the passer on every play.  In football when you can apply constant pressure to the quarterback and make him uncomfortable, you can have a big day on the defensive side of the ball.  Jairius is a relentless pass rusher and a phenomenal athlete.  He will bring a valuable commodity to the team with his versatility as well.  With a game day roster of only 18 we will be able to use him both as a defensive lineman, linebacker, but he also has the talent to play at tight end or fullback in certain situations. The more a guy can do, the more valuable he is," said Brannen.

LaRoi Johnson is a Malone University product and 4 year arena football veteran.  LaRoi joins the Bombers after spending time with the San Angelo Stampede Express, Huntington Hammers, Harrisburg Stampede, and also spent time with the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League.  The 6'4" 290 pound Johnson will report to camp for the Bombers listed as a tight end but has played receiver, fullback, and linebacker in his indoor career. "LaRoi is a hungry player that will be utilized all over the field on the offensive side of the football.  He is a great route runner with fantastic hands.  To be able to have a receiver that we can use as tight end will be a big weapon for our offense.  I expect to be able to create matches when we split him out at wide receiver in certain situations," said Coach Brannen.

The Bombers held their first open tryout of the 2013 season on October 13th and had a good turnout of local talent.  Two players were offered contracts to the Bombers training camp scheduled to kick off in March.  "We, as a coaching staff are very pleased with where our recruiting is at right now. We will continue to work tirelessly to find the best talent available that is committed to taking Abilene to the next level.  So far, we have top level talent wanting to play here!  In addition to being great players, these guys are all great men and will fit with our direction for this team.  They will constantly be ambassadors of Abilene Bomber Football in the community and a group of young men that Abilene will proudly call their own."  Commented Brannen.

The Abilene Bombers continue to build a strong roster for the upcoming season to pinpoint the target of a Championship in 2013.  Don't miss a minute of the excitement!  Get your tickets today by calling 325-232-7816.  Be sure to follow the Bombers on Facebook and don't forget to check out the website at www.bombers.biz.
