One woman is dead, another is in the hospital and a Snyder man is behind bars charged with murder after an apparent shooting spree Friday night.

According to the Snyder Police Department, officers were called to a home in the 1300 of 23rd St. after a shooting around 9:40 p.m. Friday.

When they arrived, they found two gunshot victims -- a 55-year-old woman and a 26-year-old woman.

They also said they discovered the accused shooter at the scene.

The victims were taken to Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder, where the 26-year-old was pronounced dead.

The older woman was then transported to a hospital in Lubbock in critical condition.

Both of the victims' names are being withheld pending notification of other family members.

52-year-old James Smith was taken into custody at the scene. He is jailed in Scurry County and charged with murder.
