Planned Parenthood Files Lawsuit Against Texas

By: Nora Hartfeil
Updated: November 1, 2012
More controversy surrounds the decision to close the local Planned Parenthood center.

Recently, Planned Parenthood filed a new lawsuit over a Texas rule that bans its clinics from a state health program for low-income women because the organization performs abortions.

The state health program paid for 90 percent of the $39-million-a-year program, but has said it will not renew the money because Texas decided to enforce a law that bars financing for abortion providers and their affiliates.

The decision to close the local branch was made weeks ago, and the company will shut its doors for good on November 9.
